The Ghana National Catholic Youth Council (GHANCYC) has elected new national executives to lead the Council for the next two administrative years.
The elections took place during the 49th Annual General Council Meeting (AGCM) held at the Tamale Archdiocesan Pastoral Formation Centre.
The newly elected leaders are Matthew Adda, from the Navrongo-Bolgatanga Diocese of the Tamale Province, as Chairperson, Asamoah Twumasi Vondee, from the Goaso Diocese of the Kumasi Province, as Vice Chairman and Rhodaline To-Egame Anaba, from the Accra Archdiocese of the Accra Province, as Treasurer.
They will be supported by two appointed officials from the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference, Very Rev. Fr. James Bour-Mensah, National Youth Chaplain, and Gerald Ekow Woode, General Secretary, whose positions are by appointment by the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference.
Matthew Adda pledged unity and collaboration among Catholic youth leaders nationwide. He stressed the need for teamwork, highlighting the commitment of the new executives to harness the talents, knowledge, and contributions of members, chaplains, and stakeholders.
“We are one family in Christ, and together as youth leaders, we shall work hand in hand for the growth of GHANCYC and the mission of the Church. We humbly ask our predecessors to always open their doors to us.”
He further appealed to Catholic youth, chaplains, and partners to sustain their prayers, encouragement, and active involvement in the Council’s activities. According to him, such collective effort will ensure the holistic formation of responsible, faith-driven young Catholics who can positively impact both the Church and society.
Very Rev. Fr. James Bour-Mensah, National Youth Chaplain, urged the new leadership to remain open to God’s direction, reminding them that their mandate was ultimately for the greater growth of the Council and the mission of the Church.
This year’s AGCM, which drew delegates from dioceses and vicariates across Ghana, was held under the theme: “Jubilee Year: A Time to Proclaim Christ, Hope for the Church and Ghana.”
Established in 1974 by the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference, GHANCYC serves as the official mouthpiece of Catholic youth in Ghana. Operating under the Department of Pastoral Ministry and Evangelisation of the National Catholic Secretariat, the Council is mandated to coordinate, train, evaluate, and promote the growth and development of Catholic youth in faith and service.
