The High Commissioner of the Republic of Namibia to Ghana, Her Excellency Ndiyakupi Nghipunya, has expressed strong admiration for the innovative Wellness Tourism initiative of the Ho Teaching Hospital (HTH), describing it as a model with significant potential for collaboration between Ghana and Namibia.
Mrs Nghipunya made the observation when she and her delegation visited the Ho Teaching Hospital Wellness Tourism Facility, where they toured key attractions, including the Meditation Garden and Music Therapy Studio, as part of efforts to explore opportunities for cooperation in wellness and medical tourism.
The visit offered the Namibian delegation an opportunity to experience the Hospital’s innovative approach of integrating conventional healthcare with wellness, relaxation and holistic recovery. Mrs Nghipunya commended HTH for creating a distinctive therapeutic environment that complements medical treatment with spaces and activities designed to promote healing, mental relaxation and overall wellbeing.
She said Namibia was interested in exploring areas of collaboration with the Hospital in wellness tourism and indicated that the Namibian High Commission would work with HTH to deepen cooperation in the emerging sector. According to her, Namibia could draw valuable lessons from the facility, particularly its concept of creating therapeutic spaces that enhance the healing process and improve the overall experience of patients and visitors.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Ho Teaching Hospital, Dr Hintermann K.K. Mbroh, described the visit as an important step towards strengthening international partnerships around the Hospital’s medical and wellness tourism agenda.
Dr Mbroh said Ho Teaching Hospital was positioning itself beyond the traditional concept of a hospital by creating an environment where quality healthcare, wellness, recovery and hospitality converge. He explained that the Wellness Tourism Facility formed part of the Hospital’s broader strategy to attract patients and health-conscious visitors from Ghana and beyond.
He said the Hospital remained open to partnerships with institutions, diplomatic missions and international organisations that shared its vision of promoting health, wellness and cross-border healthcare collaboration. Collaboration with Namibia, he noted, could create opportunities for knowledge exchange, staff and institutional partnerships, promotion of wellness tourism and the development of innovative models that could benefit both countries.
The District Chief Executive for Adaklu, Hon. Jerry Yao Ameko, described the Wellness Tourism Facility as an important investment in the district and expressed pride that Adaklu was hosting an initiative that placed health, wellness and innovation at the centre of development.
“Adaklu sees health as gold,” he said, emphasising the enormous social and economic value of healthcare infrastructure and wellness initiatives to the district and its people.
The Chairman of the Ho Teaching Hospital Medical Tourism Committee, Dr Richard Atuwo, said the Hospital was ready to collaborate with the Namibian High Commission and other international partners to advance medical and wellness tourism.
The Medical Tourism Coordinator, Mr Anthony Bells Kafui Kanyi, said the Teaching Hospital was strategically positioned to become a significant medical and wellness tourism destination in West Africa. He stated that the Hospital’s target market included health-conscious travellers, medical tourists, corporate clients, families and international visitors seeking quality healthcare services combined with wellness experiences.
The visit ended with a tour of the Wellness Tourism Facility and further discussions on potential areas of collaboration between HTH and the Namibian High Commission.
The visit adds to growing international interest in the facility. High Commissioners from Nigeria, Togo and Niger visited the Wellness Tourism Facility last year, while several other dignitaries, including heads of corporate institutions and organisations, have visited the facility this year.
