Minority Leader Osahen Alexander Afenyo-Markin has warned Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) Chief Executive Officer Sammy Gyamfi and other officials of an impending “day of reckoning” over reported losses incurred under the Bank of Ghana’s Domestic Gold Purchase Programme.
This comes on the back of reports by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) indicating that the Bank of Ghana’s Domestic Gold Purchase Programme, implemented through the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), recorded losses of more than $1.7 billion in 2025.
According to the IMF, the losses represented about 1.5% of Ghana’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
Addressing the media in Parliament on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, the Effutu MP said any official responsible for the reported financial losses would eventually be held to account.
“The Minority will say this firmly and boldly. It doesn’t matter the adjectives you will use to attack our personality. We know that a day of reckoning will come. They should remember that post-regime accountability awaits them,” he said.
He also cautioned officials currently involved in managing the programme not to assume they would escape scrutiny in the future, insisting that those found responsible for any financial losses would ultimately be held accountable.
