The Asogli State will come alive today as the people celebrate Teyuyru, the vibrant and highly anticipated hailing of the new yams, a central highlight of the annual Asogli Te Za (Yam Festival).
The streets across Ho will be filled with hundreds of residents and visitors, many dressed in colourful traditional attire, as they join chiefs, elders, and youth in giving thanks for a bountiful harvest. The event, steeped in rich Ewe tradition, marked the official presentation of the season’s fresh yams to God, the gods, and the ancestors, symbolising life, prosperity, and sustenance.
This year’s festival is themed “Together in Honesty and Purpose, We Build a Just, Peaceful and Prosperous Nation,” underscoring the call for unity and integrity in nation-building.
The Teyuyru ceremony not only celebrated the first harvest but also honoured farmers, who received awards for their dedication to sustaining the community’s agricultural heritage.
The entire principal street of Ho will be transformed into a spectacle of music, dance, and fanfare, with youth-led street jams reflecting the joy and gratitude of the occasion.
Beyond the revelry, elders reminded celebrants that the Asogli Te Za remains a time for reconciliation, the settling of family disputes, and a fresh start in harmony.
The Teyuyru continues to attract visitors from across Ghana and beyond, reaffirming its place as a cornerstone of the Asogli State’s cultural identity and a beacon of communal unity and thanksgiving.
