The Duo Concept Foundation has organised the Up Girl Project as part of this year’s Ghana Association of Writers and Book Festival (GAWBOFEST).
The program, themed “A Read and a Conversation,” featured the novel Talata, the Child Bride, published by Adwinsa Publications Ghana Limited. The book sheds light on the issue of child marriage in Ghana, with a strong focus on protecting and empowering the girl child.
The Up Girl Project is one of the foundation’s interventionist programs, designed to empower young people to make informed choices through reading, knowledge sharing, and dialogue.
The event was graced by the Minister for Employment and Labour Relations and Member of Parliament for Wa Central, Dr Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, the MP for North Dayi, Joycelyn Quashie, and the Deputy Director of the Parliamentary Broadcasting Department, Peter Azameti Bamfo. They shared words of encouragement, read excerpts to students, and engaged in thought-provoking discussions on how to inform, educate, and empower the youth to help curb—if not eliminate—early child marriages in Ghana.
The Duo Concept Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to empowering young people through literary projects and engagements. The foundation also undertakes philanthropic activities aimed at bridging the social gaps among today’s youth.
