The Paramount Chief of the Damongo Traditional Area, Damongowura Boresah Kelly Seidu I, has announced a temporary ban on the sale of Khebab, commonly known as Chinchinga, within the Damongo Municipality.
He has further directed all meat vendors to use the abattoir constructed by the West Gonja Municipal Assembly for animal slaughter, stressing that any animal slaughtered outside the facility will be considered stolen.
The chief’s directive follows rising concerns over increasing cases of livestock theft, which have left many farmers and animal owners frustrated and financially burdened.
Damongowura Boresah Kelly made the disclosure after a meeting with the youth of Damongo, led by Pastor Samuel Mahama Denkeri, at his palace.
The municipality has in recent months recorded a spate of mysterious disappearances of goats, sheep, and cattle, sparking fears of an organised theft syndicate.
Affected residents say the thieves usually strike at night, taking advantage of poor community surveillance and limited security patrols.
The Paramount Chief has therefore called on the West Gonja Municipal Assembly and the Savannah Regional Police Command to step up efforts to combat the menace.
He also appealed for the revival of community watchdog committees to help safeguard livestock and restore confidence among residents.
