The Centre for Environment Management and Sustainable Energy (CEMSE) has dismissed allegations of procurement breaches against the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Volta River Authority (VRA), Ing. Edward Ekow Obeng-Kenzo, calling them baseless and unsubstantiated.
The accusations made by the New Volta Forum (NVF) were refuted by CEMSE’s Executive Director, Mr Benjamin Nsiah, who clarified that Obeng-Kenzo has no direct role in VRA’s procurement processes.
“Ing. Obeng-Kenzo is not the procurement officer and has no direct involvement in procurement activities at the VRA,” Nsiah stated, emphasizing that a simple check with the Public Procurement Authority would confirm this. He criticized NVF for failing to verify their claims before making them public.
Mr Nsiah also condemned the NVF for spreading misleading information, noting that responsible discourse should be based on facts.
“Some of the concerns raised by the group lack proper research,” he added.
Addressing concerns about political bias in Obeng-Kenzo’s appointment, Nsiah stressed that competence should be the primary criterion.
“If the President believes that Mr Obeng-Kenzo is the right person to lead the VRA forward, it shouldn’t matter whether he is NPP or NDC; what matters is that he is a qualified Ghanaian,” he stated.
Mr. Nsiah made these remarks during an interview on Accra-based Kessben FM.
