The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has constituted a National Vetting Committee chaired by former Sanitation and Water Resources Minister, Cecilia Abena Dapaah, ahead of the party’s national elections scheduled for October 3, 2026.
The committee is expected to vet aspirants seeking to contest the various national executive positions as the party prepares to elect new leaders.
Addressing the press, Chairman of the NPP Election Committee, Frederick Opare Ansah, said nominations for the national elections will open from August 17 to August 20, 2026.
The vetting of aspirants will subsequently take place from August 31 to September 3, with the list of qualified aspirants expected to be published on September 5.
Mr Opare Ansah said an appeal process would be opened to aspirants until September 14, after which the party will announce the notice of poll ahead of the elections.
He announced that the National Vetting Committee is chaired by Cecilia Abena Dapaah, with Papa Owusu-Ankomah, Salifu Said, Ambassador Baffour Adjei Bawuah, Elizabeth Ohene, Osei Prempeh, Joyce Opoku Boateng and Arnold Boateng serving as members. Evans Nimako will serve as Secretary to the committee.
According to Mr Opare Ansah, the various stages of the electoral process have been carefully scheduled to ensure a smooth and credible national election.
Meanwhile, the NPP has announced nomination fees for aspirants seeking the various national executive positions.
Nomination forms for the position of National Chairman will cost GH¢50,000, while aspirants seeking to contest for First Vice Chairperson and General Secretary will pay GH¢30,000 and GH¢25,000, respectively.
Forms for the other national executive positions will be sold at GH¢10,000.
A reduced fee of GH¢8,000 will, however, apply to aspirants seeking positions in the party’s special wings, including the Youth Wing, Women’s Wing and Nasara Wing.
The October 3 elections are expected to produce a new crop of national executives who will steer the affairs of the NPP as it reorganises and prepares for its next political phase.
