The Forum for Development and Accountable Governance (FDAG) has dismissed recent allegations by the New Voter Forum (NVF) against the Volta River Authority (VRA) and its Acting Chief Executive Officer, Ing. Edward Ekow Obeng-Kenzo.
Following an independent probe, FDAG found no evidence to support NVF’s claims of discrimination, procurement infractions, or financial mismanagement under Obeng-Kenzo’s leadership.
NVF had accused Obeng-Kenzo of discriminatory practices against VRA staff. However, FDAG’s investigation found that he has consistently promoted professionalism, fairness, and inclusivity.
NVF also alleged procurement breaches and financial mismanagement within VRA. FDAG’s findings indicate that VRA operates under strict financial regulations aligned with the Public Procurement Act and international standards, ensuring transparency and efficiency. The organization highlighted Obeng-Kenzo’s commitment to financial accountability, noting that all transactions undergo rigorous audits.
On the 2023 controlled spillage of the Akosombo and Kpong Dams, NVF claimed the decision led to unnecessary displacement of residents. FDAG, however, determined that the spillage was a critical safety measure to protect lives and infrastructure. It noted that VRA, in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), took proactive steps to mitigate the impact, including timely evacuations and relief support.
FDAG also dismissed NVF’s portrayal of Obeng-Kenzo as emotionally unstable and a workplace bully. According to staff testimonies, his leadership fosters teamwork, inclusivity, and unity. His approach to engaging staff in separate groups was intended to address concerns effectively, not to create division.
In a statement dated February 20, 2025, and signed by its Executive Director, Nana Kojo Abbam, FDAG emphasized the need for public discussions to be grounded in verified facts. The group urged stakeholders to refrain from spreading unsubstantiated claims that could tarnish the reputations of individuals and institutions committed to national development.
