Ghanaian para-athlete Zinabu Issah concluded her 2024 Paris Paralympic Games campaign with a ninth-place finish in the women’s shot put (F57) final on Thursday (5 September), at the Stade de France, Saint-Denis.
The 44-year-old, who had earlier secured 12th place in the women’s discus throw (F57) on Saturday (31 August), demonstrated strong form throughout the competition.
In the shot put qualifying round on Wednesday (4 September), Issah achieved a personal best (PB) of 8.67m, securing her place at the top of the round and advancing to the final.
In Thursday’s final, Issah continued to impress, surpassing her previous personal best with a throw of 8.84m on her fourth attempt. Despite her remarkable performance, she finished 1.9m short of a podium position.
Algeria’s Nassima Saifi—who claimed the gold in the women’s discus throw (F57)—secured bronze with a 10.74m throw, while China’s Xu Mian—who claimed silver in the women’s discus throw (F57)—once again picked up silver with 10.89m.
The gold medal went to Safia Djelal of Algeria, who set a new Paralympic Games record with an 11.56m throw, surpassing her own record of 11.29m set in Tokyo 2020.
