The third accused in the ongoing ambulance purchase trial, Richard Jakpa, has filed motions to subpoena the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, to testify.
Speaker Bagbin, a former Health Minister, and another former Health Minister, Alex Segbefia, are expected to provide evidence in the procurement of the ambulances which are at the centre of the case involving Minority Leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson.
After concluding his testimony on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, Jakpa was directed by the court to summon his witnesses. He informed the court of his intention to call eight witnesses, some of whom will need to be subpoenaed.
In court today, lawyers for Richard Jakpa indicated that they plan on calling the two as well as the Chief of Defence Staff, Lt. General Thomas Oppong Peprah, and Military Secretary, Air Commodore Adu Gyamfi.
The judge noted, however, that the initial subpoena orders did not include requests for documents that the witnesses should present.
The case has been adjourned to next Thursday, July 18, 2024.
