According to her son, Dr. Obeng Busia, the NPP stalwart died peacefully in her hospital bed at the Nyaho Medical Centre after a brief illness.

Ama Busia played a significant role in the history of the NPP, serving as both the first and third National Vice Chairperson. Her legacy extends beyond party lines, as she was known for her commitment to justice and democracy. Notably, she became a political critic of the Acheampong government, leading to her arrest seven times, including a 90-day detention period.

Despite facing adversity early in life, losing both parents at a young age, Ama Busia pursued education as a means of success. She attended Wenchi Methodist School, and Methodist Middle Girls’ School in Kumasi, and later trained as a teacher at the Komenda Training College.

In 1959, she accompanied her brother into exile in London, where she continued her education at the Regent Street Polytechnic, specializing in Institutional Management and Catering.

In November 2022, Madam Ama Busia launched her memoir titled ‘Bittersweet Pill of Politics,’ recounting her journey from humble beginnings, enduring arrests during General Acheampong’s regime, to her later years as a Council of State member under former President Kufuor.

Reviewing the book, Madam Elizabeth Ohene recounted Madam Ama Bame Busia’s tough times, including seven arrests and a three-month detention during General Acheampong’s regime, culminating in what is described as her sweet days under former President Kufuor as a Council of State member.
