Kennedy Agyapong, the Assin Central lawmaker and a flagbearer hopeful of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), has revealed that responding to the innuendos of Second Lady, Samira Bawumia will collapse her marriage.
According to him, he has refrained from responding to some of her comments, citing concerns that doing so could potentially jeopardize her marriage.
Speaking on Kumasi-based Oyerepa TV, Mr Agyapong denied allegations of making disparaging remarks about women. He underscored his decision not to engage in a verbal confrontation with the Second Lady and expressed his reservations about the party’s leadership remaining silent in response to the attacks on his person.
Mr Agyapong said Samira Bawumia had suggested that he had received lucrative government contracts and had achieved financial stability but was now attempting to tarnish the reputation of the party that had provided him with substantial support.
The Second Lady in an interaction with delegates in the Amansie constituency to disregard Ken Agyapong, who had previously warned that the NPP would face opposition if he did not win the flagbearer contest. She emphasized the importance of unity within the party and criticized those who campaigned with hostility, suggesting that the NPP should go into opposition if their favoured candidate did not secure victory.
In response to these developments, Ken Agyapong explained that those who argued that the Second Lady had not mentioned any names in her speech would be swift to accuse him of insulting women if he responded without explicitly naming her. He stressed that he did not want to be held responsible for any adverse effects on the Second Lady’s marriage.
“I have pledged not to comment. You heard what Mrs. Bawumia said about me, but I refrained from responding because I fear that my reply could negatively affect her marriage.” When the host suggested that his comments might imply a certain motive without further clarification, Agyapong simply reiterated, “I said I won’t talk.”
