The Member of Parliament for North Dayi, Joycelyn Tetteh, has embarked on a humanitarian mission to support the victims of the Akosombo Dam spillage.
This comes after the overflow of excess water from the Akosombo and Kpong Dams wreaked havoc in several communities in the Volta Region with North Dayi being one of the worst-hit areas. This year’s release of water from the dam exceeded five meters, leading to a dramatic surge in water levels, which, in turn, triggered severe flooding in low-lying areas. The repercussions of this devastating natural occurrence have had far-reaching effects on the affected communities in North Dayi and the surrounding areas.

In light of the ongoing crisis, the MP, Joycelyn Tetteh, has launched a humanitarian mission to provide much-needed support to the victims. With the situation growing more dire by the day, a clarion call for assistance has been issued to the public, both within Ghana and abroad, to come together and help the communities that are bearing the brunt of this catastrophe.
The overflow from the Akosombo Dam has had severe consequences. As the floodwaters recede, many communities are grappling with the use of contaminated water sources, which pose serious health risks. It is imperative to address a range of immediate needs to help these communities rebuild and recover.

After presenting some relief items to affected communities, Joycelyn Tetteh called on individuals, organizations, and well-wishers to contribute to the relief efforts.
She said, the following items are urgently required to provide immediate assistance to those affected by the flooding:
- Boreholes: The creation of new boreholes and the repair of damaged ones are crucial to ensuring access to clean and safe drinking water for the affected communities.
- Food Items: Donations of non-perishable food items are vital to alleviate hunger and suffering among those affected.
- Used Clothing: Gently used clothing can provide essential clothing for individuals who have lost their belongings due to flooding.
- Stationery: The provision of school supplies for children will enable them to return to their education despite the challenging circumstances.
- Medications: Essential medical supplies and medications are needed to address health concerns in the aftermath of the disaster.
- Clean Water: Bottled water and water purification equipment are necessary to ensure clean and safe drinking water for the affected communities.
- Other Relief Items: Any additional relief items that individuals or organizations may have available can make a significant difference in the lives of those affected.
