Controversy has erupted in Damfa and its environs in Accra as Ga Chiefs make accusations of land theft, implicating Malik Neequaye, one of President Nana Akufo-Addo’s bodyguards. Shedding light on this contentious issue, Nii Dzani Tsuru Afutu Brempong IV, the Divisional Chief of Damfa, has come forward to voice his concerns, raising alarm within the community.
Nii Dzani Tsuru Afutu Brempong IV expressed his dissatisfaction with a recent press conference where individuals claiming to be Ga chiefs alleged that Moses Abor, Freddie Blay, and Ben Seyram were involved in land transactions in the Diary Farm area.
He disclosed that some of these individuals had previously approached him, seeking a peaceful resolution to the ongoing land dispute. However, he was taken aback when he later saw these same individuals seated alongside the claimants at the press conference, leaving him perplexed about their intentions.
The Divisional Chief then delved into his experience dealing with Alhaji Malik Neequaye, who is a member of President Nana Akufo-Addo’s security entourage. Nii Dzani Tsuru Afutu Brempong IV recounted how Malik Neequaye had organized a group described as “thugs” and “landguards” at the Kweiman site, further escalating tensions in the area.
“I want to put on record that I was unhappy with the press conference by some alleged Ga chiefs claiming Moses Abor, Freddie Blay and Ben Seyram have sold lands in Diary Farm. Some of the people came to me to speak on how we can harmonize this community, only for me to see them sitting behind him at his press conference. Does he mean they made a U-turn? There was this Alhaji Malik Neequaye who mobilised thugs and landguards to the Kweiman site. He (Malik)called me and told me he was dealing with Kojo Ashong of Amanhria and one Porsper of Kweiman. I told him I would ensure there is peace but Malik Neequaye who is part of Akufo-Addo’s security entourage decided to disobey and use land guards, I was able to use the police to turn him back,” Nii Afutu Brempong said at the press conference on October 14.
The chiefs also denied claims that Moses Abor and some NPP officials are engaged in land grabbing.
“Let me state emphatically, that Moses Abor is not involved in the sale of lands. First and foremost, Moses Abor is not encroaching on or selling our lands to champion his MP ambition. That claim is alien to us, and we challenge Nii Kweiman and Ashong Kojo to back those allegations with evidence,” Nii Afutu Brempong said at the press conference.
