A member of Alan Kyerematen’s campaign team, Hopeson Adorye has issued a stern warning to elements in the governing NPP casting insinuations and aspersions on him for his choice of Alan as flagbearer.
This comes after Alan Kyerematen’s decision to officially withdraw from the NPP flagbearership race just hours before the scheduled balloting for the November 4 polls.
On September 5, 2023, the former trade minister, issued a press release announcing his withdrawal from the race, marking the end of a tumultuous 24 hours for the diplomat and senior NPP member.
In reaction to the development, Hopeson Adorye posted a message on his social media account, apparently directed at party members who had mocked him over the situation, saying, “Continue to insult me and later come back that we should be one. You will then hear real sounds.”
Reasons for the Withdrawal:
Alan Kyerematen cited the intimidation of delegates during the recent Super Delegates Conference as one of the main reasons for his withdrawal. He also expressed his belief that the system had been manipulated to favour a specific candidate and that the party had done little to enforce agreed-upon rules and regulations for the primary.
The announcement confirmed earlier reports that the former minister had planned to announce his withdrawal during the cancelled 2:00 pm press conference.
It remains unclear what Alan Kyerematen’s future plans entail, with unconfirmed reports suggesting he may explore the possibility of running as an independent candidate in the upcoming 2024 General Elections.
In the Super Delegates Congress, Alan Kyerematen secured the third position, trailing behind Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia and Kennedy Agyapong.
