Parliament has unveiled the membership of a Special Committee investigating the IGP leaked tape sage.
This is in response to the alarming contents of the audio recording which details plots to remove the Inspector General of Police (IGP) ahead of the 2024 general election as part of plans to rig the 2024 polls for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).
In response to this, the House some weeks ago took decisive action by announcing the composition of a 7-member Special Committee tasked with conducting a thorough investigation into the matter.
The Speaker of Parliament, Rt Hon Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin announced the composition of the committee to be chaired by Samuel Atta Akyea, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Abuakwa South ably supported by James Agalga, the MP for Builsa North as the Vice Chair, to ensure a comprehensive and impartial inquiry.
Representing the Majority caucus on the committee are Patrick Yaw Boamah, MP for Okaikwei Central, and Ophelia Mensah, MP from Mfantseman. On the other side, the Minority Caucus will be represented by Eric Opoku, MP for Asunafo South, and Peter Lanchene Toobu, representing Wa West.
To enhance the investigation’s expertise, the committee will be joined by Dr Isaac Lartey Annan, a distinguished lawyer and human rights expert, who will lend valuable insights into the matter.
The Special Committee has been granted a deadline of September 10, 2023, to submit its comprehensive report, assuring the public that the investigation will be conducted with the utmost diligence and impartiality.
