Bryan Acheampong Pledges Full Support for Kwahu Youth Choir at First Anniversary Concert

The Minister of Food and Agriculture and Member of Parliament for the Abetifi constituency, Dr Bryan Acheampong, has committed to supporting the Kwahu Youth Choir in its quest to become a globally recognized choral group.

Speaking at the choir’s first-anniversary concert on Saturday, September 7, 2024, Dr Acheampong expressed his admiration for the choir’s initiative.

“This is a fantastic project, and although I’m not sure exactly how I can help, I will speak with the leaders and find the best way to assist. By their second anniversary, I expect them to be even bigger,” he stated.

In a light-hearted moment, Acheampong teased the group, asking, “How can someone I played football with in 1993 (31 years ago) still call himself a youth?” He suggested that the choir consider incorporating younger members or perhaps even changing its name to better reflect its current membership.

Nana Boamah Ayirepe III, Nkwatiahene, who chaired the event, urged the choir to uphold their mission of promoting the Kwahu Agenda and to avoid gossip and backbiting. He noted that the entire Kwahu community fully supports the choir, calling it the first initiative of its kind in Kwahuman.

Davis Opoku Ansah (OPK), MP for Mpraeso, also rallied support for the choir, encouraging Kwahus worldwide to engage them in various events. He further pledged to donate a keyboard, and a sound system, and make a financial contribution to the group.

Kaakyire Kwabena Adusah, Executive Director of the choir, appealed to Kwahu leaders and residents for continued support.

“Easter may promote Kwahu annually, but the Kwahu Youth Choir can do so weekly or monthly through our frequent performances,” he said.

Mr Adusah called on the community to adopt and support the choir in its mission to promote Kwahuman through choral music.

The anniversary concert, organized in partnership with Rock City Hotel, attracted over 200 guests, including DCEs, MCEs, clergy, and government officials.

The MC for the evening, OB Amponsah, was his usual funny self as he engaged the audience in “congregational songs” while conducting them and cracking their ribs with intermittent jokes.

The concert, which lasted for three hours, left the audience wanting more as the event came to a close with a final prayer.

The Kwahu Youth Choir (KYC), formed in January 2022, is a non-denominational choral group of over 40 singers and instrumentalists. The choir’s mission is to develop the talents and leadership skills of young people through hymns and choral music while promoting social responsibility, brotherhood, and the gospel. They are dedicated to spreading the Good News through inspiring choral and classical music, particularly focusing on Ghanaian and African compositions.
