Shatta Wale sues Blakk Rasta for defamation, demands GHc100m in damages

Popular dancehall artiste Charles Nii Armah Mensah, popularly known as Shatta Wale, has sued social commentator Abubakar Ahmed, also known as Blakk Rasta, for defamation, demanding damages in the sum of 100 million cedis.

The action is premised on a publication allegedly made by Blakk Rasta (the Defendant) titled “Shatta Wale, Self-Confessed King of Fraud,” which the Plaintiff finds defamatory.

In the case filed by his lawyers, Robert Smith Law Group, on January 15, the award-winning musician is demanding a retraction and an apology from the former musician.

The Plaintiff is also seeking a declaration that the statements and comments made by the Defendant in the video titled “SHATTA WALE, SELF-CONFESSED KING OF FRAUD” are defamatory.

The reliefs being sought include an order directing the Defendant to immediately and permanently remove or delete the video posted on December 15, 2025, titled “SHATTA WALE, SELF-CONFESSED KING OF FRAUD,” and all related defamatory content from the Defendant’s social media platforms.

He is also seeking an order restraining the Defendant, his agents, or anyone acting on his behalf from further posting, publishing, sharing, or circulating any defamatory statements or comments against the Plaintiff.

Additionally, the Plaintiff is seeking an order for a public retraction by the Defendant and an unqualified apology to be posted on the Defendant’s social media pages and published in a full page of the Daily Graphic, Ghanaian Times, and Graphic Showbiz newspapers.

In his statement of case, the Plaintiff stated that the statements made by the Defendant, by way of innuendo, were false. He said the malicious publications made by the Defendant were “naturally and ordinarily understood by right-thinking members of society” to mean that he lacks honesty.

He further stated that, based on the publication, he is portrayed as possessing particularly bad morals by deceiving people through participation in, encouragement of, and facilitation of internet and other forms of fraud, acts which are not only offences under Ghanaian law but also a cancer the State is making every effort to eliminate from the social fabric.

According to the Plaintiff, the Defendant’s comments portrayed him as a morally reprehensible person with malicious intentions toward people he comes into contact with.

The Plaintiff also said the statement depicts him as an opportunistic person motivated solely by selfish interests and as someone who puts up false appearances merely to deceive people.

Shatta Wale contended that the statements made by the Defendant portray him as an untruthful person, full of lies, equivocation, and prevarication, and as someone who cannot be trusted.

The basis for the claim, according to the Plaintiff, is that within 24 hours of posting the video on Facebook, it generated over 150,000 views, more than 1,000 comments, and over 6,000 likes.

He further stated that the video has generated over 27,000 views, more than 40 comments, and over 600 likes on YouTube.

The Plaintiff contended that throughout the video, the Defendant was heard making statements that tarnished his reputation.
