The Ministry of Health has announced plans to investigate allegations of unprofessional conduct at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, Ridge, following an investigative report published by media house The Fourth Estate.
In a press release signed by Tony Goodman, Spokesperson and Head of Health Training Institutions at the Ministry of Health, said it had taken note of the report, which has been widely circulated on social media, and expressed sympathy for patients and relatives who may have been subjected to any form of unprofessional treatment in health facilities across the country.
The Ministry reaffirmed the government’s commitment to reducing the stress and financial burden patients face in accessing healthcare services, stressing that patient welfare remains a top priority.
However, it noted that it was “deeply concerned and surprised” by some of the revelations contained in the report, describing the issues raised as serious and deserving of careful and thorough examination.
As a result, the Ministry said it is in the process of constituting an investigative committee to look into the matter. The committee is expected to submit its findings within fourteen (14) working days.
The Ministry also called for the full cooperation of all relevant stakeholders, including The Fourth Estate, to help establish the facts, ensure accountability, and improve service delivery within Ghana’s health system.
