The Tema Regional Police Command has intercepted a total of 1,613 parcels of substances suspected to be narcotic drugs in a major intelligence-led operation along the Asokombo–Tema road, marking a significant breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking.
According to a press release issued and signed by ASP Dede Dzakpasu, Head of Public Affairs Unit of the Regional Police Headquarters in Tema, the operation followed credible intelligence received on January 10, 2026, indicating that large quantities of suspected narcotic substances were being transported from the Volta Region towards Tema.
Acting swiftly on the information, the police mounted surveillance along the route, with particular focus on the Agomeda Junction area.
At about 12:45 a.m. on January 11, 2026, police intercepted two vehicles: a white Toyota Highlander with registration number GS 2013-13 and a black Mitsubishi Pajero with registration number GC 400-22. The vehicles were being driven by two suspects identified as Isaac Odoi, aged 33, and Kwame Mani, aged 39.
A search conducted on the vehicles led to the discovery of several compressed parcels wrapped in yellow packaging and suspected to be narcotic drugs. Preliminary checks revealed that 872 parcels were found in the Mitsubishi Pajero, while 741 parcels were recovered from the Toyota Highlander, bringing the total seizure to 1,613 parcels.
The suspects were immediately arrested and escorted, together with the exhibits, to the police station for further action. On January 12, 2026, both the suspects and the seized exhibits were handed over to the Regional Criminal Investigations Department (CID) in Tema, where photographs and detailed inventories were taken.
Police say the suspects are currently in custody and assisting with ongoing investigations. Samples of the suspected substances will be sent to the Forensic Crime Laboratory for scientific analysis, while searches are expected to be conducted at the suspects’ places of residence. The Police are also preparing to process the suspects for court.
The Tema Regional Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying operations against drug trafficking and other forms of crime. The Command has further urged the public to continue providing credible information to support security agencies in their efforts to keep communities safe.
