Communities in the Garu District have received major relief from years of water scarcity following the commissioning of several mechanised boreholes by the Member of Parliament for the area, Dr Thomas Winsum Anabah.
For decades, residents—including traditional authorities, women, and students—have struggled to access clean and reliable water, often trekking long distances to fetch water from unsafe sources. Repeated appeals to authorities and charitable organisations yielded little response until now.
Dr Anabah, in partnership with Qatar Charity, has constructed mechanised boreholes in communities such as Kugpiella, Farfar, and Bantafarugo. The facilities are expected to ease the daily burden on residents and enhance sanitation, health, and economic activities in the beneficiary communities.
During the commissioning ceremonies, residents expressed joy and gratitude for what they described as a timely intervention in the face of persistent water challenges.
Kombat David, a community member, commended the MP for fulfilling a key campaign promise and acknowledged Qatar Charity for its support.
“We appreciate our MP so much. He has really delivered as he promised during his campaign, and we are also grateful to Qatar Charity for this precious resource,” he said.
Students also shared similar sentiments. Awini Memunatu noted that reliable access to clean water would greatly improve their health and academic life.
“We as students will forever remain grateful because we can now get clean water to drink. It is good for our health. We are grateful to our MP, Dr Thomas Anabah. God bless you,” she said.
Community leaders and religious figures also lauded the initiative, describing it as an important step toward resolving the district’s long-standing water challenges.
The MP pledged continued support to ensure that more communities in the Garu District receive access to clean drinking water.
