The Motorcycle Couriers Union of Ghana (MCUG) has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) over what it describes as persistent misconduct by some officers at the Tesano Police Station.
In a letter dated November 20, 2025, MCUG General Secretary Abugri Timothy stated that the union is concerned about the “ongoing abuses” reported at the station, insisting that such behaviour is eroding public confidence in the police.
The union referenced the President’s recent speech during the swearing-in of the Chief Justice, where he stressed equality before the law. According to MCUG, the conduct of officers at Tesano contradicts this principle.
“The President made it clear that no one is above the law. But the behaviour we are seeing at Tesano suggests otherwise,” the union noted.
MCUG also cited the IGP’s earlier comments that civilians are increasingly taking the law into their own hands and attacking police officers. They said such tensions can be avoided if police officers adopt the right approach.
“If the public is being told to respect the law, then officers must also show professionalism. De-escalation must be a priority. Professionalism must start from within the service.”
The union detailed a number of incidents reportedly occurring within the past month. These included motorists allegedly having their phones forcibly formatted, a woman who claims she reported abuse to the station several times without any action taken, and an accident involving a Benz driver and a tricycle rider in which eyewitnesses openly expressed distrust toward the MTTD commander.
“We believe in the rule of law, but what is happening at the Tesano Police Station is deeply troubling. Motorists are being maltreated, officers are allegedly formatting their phones, and bikes are being impounded without any proper explanation. People are even being detained unlawfully.”
“Confidence in the Tesano Police Station is collapsing. When civilians start doubting police commanders openly, that is a sign of serious institutional failure.”
MCUG is calling for a full investigation into the conduct of the officers and is demanding the release of all impounded motorcycles taken without a legal basis.
“We are urging the Police Administration to take urgent steps to rebuild public trust. The police must put up the right behaviour if they want citizens to respect them.”
