Despite their elimination, the Koforidua-based school earned nationwide admiration for their courage, composure, and intellectual brilliance.
St. Augustine’s College emerged winner of the contest with 46 points, while Pope John SHS & Minor Seminary finished a close second with 38 points. Amaniampong SHS placed third with 23 points.
The battle began on a strong note for Pope John SHS, whose contestants took an early lead in the first two rounds, scoring 13 and 15 points respectively. Their consistent performance and quick recall of concepts placed them ahead of St. Augustine’s College and Amaniampong SHS, earning cheers from their loyal supporters.
The third round, the Problem of the Day, proved decisive. Both Pope John SHS and St. Augustine’s College delivered flawless performances, each securing a perfect 10 out of 10. That set the tone for an electrifying finish, with both teams locked in a fierce intellectual battle.
Round 4 became the defining moment of the match. In a tightly contested segment, St. Augustine’s College lodged a protest over one of the questions, claiming an error in the marking. After careful review, the quiz moderators upheld the protest, awarding St Augustine’s an additional 2 points.
That decision shifted the balance of the contest, allowing Augustine’s to overtake Pope John SHS with 37 points against POJOSS’s 35 heading into the final round.
Though the result did not go their way, Pope John SHS and Minor Seminary walked away with immense pride and respect. Their semifinal journey was marked by determination, teamwork, and confidence — qualities that won the admiration of many NSMQ followers.
POJOSS had earlier recorded impressive victories over Ghana SHS, Tamale, Swedru SHS, and Mpraeso SHS, earning their place among the top contenders for this year’s trophy.
