The Member of Parliament for Krachi East in the Oti Region, Nelson Kofi Djabab, has called for an urgent response from the government following two destructive rainstorms that have caused massive blackouts in parts of his constituency.
According to Nelson Kofi Djabab, his constituency experienced two major rainstorms on April 27 and May 27, which swept through portions of the area and destroyed several high-tension and low-tension electricity poles.
While speaking on the floor of Parliament on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, the MP stressed that the roof of the only E-Block in the constituency was completely destroyed as a result of the storms.
“It concerns Lambussie as well as as Nandom. We’ve had two major rainstorms on April 27 and May 27, and the roof of the only E-Block facility is gone because of the rainstorms. Now the students are struggling. This has left them in a very precarious situation, and the rainstorm he just described also swept through parts of my constituency. Schools that were affected: Dambai Lakeside JHS, Dambai Old Town JHS and the entire Yariga community, including their six-unit classroom block, which was completely destroyed by the wind storm.”
“In fact, my own home in the constituency has been without electricity since June 14, and several communities have been affected because the rain swept away several high-tension and low-tension electricity poles,” he added.
Nelson Kofi Djabab also called on the Ghana Education Service to come to the aid of the affected schools, while urging the Electricity Company of Ghana to help restore power to the affected communities.
