The Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, has issued a stern warning to government officials to strictly adhere to the newly introduced Code of Conduct unveiled by President John Dramani Mahama, stressing that breaches will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
Speaking at the official launch of the Code on Monday, May 5, 2025, Mr. Debrah urged all appointees to treat the document with the seriousness it deserves.
“I will encourage each and every one of you, once you get your copy, to study it just like your Bible. Because there shall never be any excuse whatsoever when you cross the line,” he stated emphatically.
He cautioned that claims of ignorance or personal relationships with the President would not shield anyone from disciplinary action.
“The only time you will not be able to reach the President is when we are about removing you,” he warned. “Even if you reach him through his driver or aide-de-camp, he will refer you back to me.”
Mr. Debrah likened the workings of government to running a boarding school, where discipline and strict adherence to rules are non-negotiable.
He urged officials to take personal responsibility and internalise the Code, stressing that the Mahama-led administration is committed to promoting accountability, integrity, and good governance.
The Code of Conduct, according to the Presidency, is a key part of efforts to instil discipline and transparency across all levels of public service.
