The Member of Parliament for Walewale, Dr. Tiah Abdul-Kabiru Mahama, has called for the establishment of a regulatory framework to govern the ethical use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Ghana.
Dr. Mahama, who is also a member of the Information and Communications Committee of Parliament, made the call following his participation as part of the Ghanaian delegation to the 2025 World Internet Conference – Asia-Pacific Summit, held in Hong Kong from April 11 to 16.
The high-level conference, which brought together global technology leaders, creators, and policymakers, was held under the theme: “Integration of AI and Digital Technologies Shaping the Future – Jointly Building a Community with a Shared Future in Cyberspace.”

Reflecting on Ghana’s digital progress, Dr. Mahama, in a social media post, stressed the need for Ghana to prepare for the AI revolution through effective parliamentary oversight and legislation
“It was established that digitalisation is the foundation of AI, and with the advancements Ghana has made in this space, our ability to embrace AI across all sectors of the economy is within reach.”
“We need a regulatory regime to guide the introduction, implementation, and monitoring of AI systems, particularly with regard to the ethical use of AI in this era of misinformation,” he stressed.

Dr. Mahama joined other Ghanaian industry players and the “father of the internet in Africa,” Dr. Nii Narku Quaynor, to share insights and learn from international counterparts during the summit.
He reiterated Parliament’s role in shaping digital policy, adding, “As representatives of the people, it is our duty to ensure that technological advancements work for the benefit of every Ghanaian. We must lead the conversation on responsible and inclusive AI adoption.”
