The re-collation of two outstanding polling stations in Tema Central has confirmed Charles Forson of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as the winner.
Mr Forson secured victory with 18,870 votes, narrowly edging out Ebi Bright of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who garnered 18,815 votes. Independent candidate Frederick Aniagyei trailed with 209 votes.
Of the total 38,038 ballots cast, 37,894 were deemed valid, while 144 were rejected.
It will be recalled that an Accra High Court on Saturday, January 4, 2024, ordered the Electoral Commission (EC) to finalize the collation of results in Tema Central, Ablekuma North, Okaikwei Central, and Techiman South by January 6, 2025. The court also directed the Inspector General of Police to deploy armed security personnel to oversee the collation exercises and maintain order.
The ruling stemmed from mandamus applications filed by NPP candidates in the affected constituencies, compelling the EC to fulfil its constitutional mandate. Presiding over the case, Justice Forson Agyapong urged the EC to complete the electoral processes impartially.
In Tema Central, the court found that the EC had failed to include results from two polling stations.
