The Eastern Regional Command (ERC) of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has organized a sensitization program at Asuom Senior High School in the Kwaebibirem Municipality. The initiative aimed to educate students on the harmful effects of drug abuse and equip them with knowledge to make informed life choices.
As part of the Command’s ongoing efforts to raise awareness about the dangers of illicit drug use, the program highlighted the physical, psychological, and social consequences associated with substance abuse.
ANCO Bernard Obeng Weridu, who led the presentation, engaged both students and teachers in an interactive session.
He outlined the various derivatives of illegal drugs, including crack cocaine, “tire,” weed toffee, marijuana, and weed bitters. He emphasized that excessive use of these substances can cause severe health complications, potentially damaging vital organs such as the kidneys, liver, heart, and lungs.
Weridu also encouraged students to focus on their studies and avoid negative peer influences that could lead them into drug abuse.
The teachers commended the NACOC Education Unit for its dedication to combating drug abuse among students in the region. They lauded the program as a vital step toward creating a drug-free environment in schools and fostering responsible decision-making among young people.
