Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror has been appointed as the new Clerk to Parliament of the Republic of Ghana, following an extraordinary meeting of the Parliamentary Service Board held in November 2024. The decision was reached after interviews were conducted with three deputy clerks for the position.
Mr Djietror will succeed the current Clerk, Cyril Kwabena Oteng Nsiah, who is set to retire upon reaching the compulsory retirement age of 60 on February 2, 2025.
Mr Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror is an experienced lawyer by profession and one of the longest-serving procedural clerks. In addition to serving as the Clerk-at–Table of the House, he has in the past served as the clerk to various committees of Parliament including the Committee on Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, the Business Committee, the Committee on Judiciary as well as the Committee on Foreign Affairs of parliament.
The Rt. Hon. Speaker of the Eighth Parliament and Chairman of the Parliamentary Service Board, Mr Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has issued an appointment letter to Mr Djietror, enabling him to officially assume his duties on January 1, 2025. Meanwhile, Mr. Oteng Nsiah has been directed to proceed on annual leave starting December 31, 2024.
Mr. Djietror is expected to oversee the swearing-in of newly elected Members of Parliament and the Speaker on January 7, 2025. Renowned for his procedural expertise, until his elevation as Clerk, Mr Djietror served as Deputy Clerk in charge of Corporate and Financial Management Services.
Before then, he was the acting Deputy Clerk for Legislative Management Services and was
Principal Assistant Clerk and Head of the Table Office for almost 15 years.
Before the House adjourns for the Christmas break, the Rt. Hon. Speaker is expected to formally announce Mr Djietror’s appointment to Members of Parliament.
