Inaki Williams was the star of the show as Athletic Club continued their unbeaten Europa League campaign with a commanding 2-0 win over Fenerbahçe in Istanbul.
The Ghanaian forward scored both goals, delivering a clinical performance that showcased his attacking prowess.
Williams opened the scoring in the 12th minute, capitalizing on a defensive error by Samet Akaydin. The Fenerbahçe defender’s poor back pass allowed Gorka Guruzeta to intercept and set up Williams for a simple tap-in.
The Athletic talisman doubled his tally just before halftime, driving a powerful shot past Dominik Livaković from a tight angle to secure a commanding lead.
In the second half, Fenerbahçe pushed to recover, but their task became even harder when Mert Müldür was sent off after a second yellow card for a foul on Williams.
Despite the hosts’ efforts, Williams’ two goals proved decisive, ensuring Athletic extended their unbeaten streak to 12 matches across all competitions.
The victory puts Athletic in a strong position to qualify directly for the Europa League’s last 16. For Williams, his brace underlines his importance to Ernesto Valverde’s side, as the Basque team continues to shine on the European stage.
Williams has scored eight goals in all competitions so far this season.
