Election 2024: I’m still in the race – Cynthia Morrison dismisses claims of backing out of independent bid

The Member of Parliament for Agona West, Cynthia Mamle Morrison has categorically denied claims she is reconsidering her decision to run as an independent candidate in the 2024 general elections. The rumours began circulating after images of Mrs Morrison with members of the Majority caucus at Parliament’s Job 600 office surfaced on Tuesday, October 22, 2024.

This led to speculations that she was reversing her decision to contest as an independent candidate after losing the New Patriotic Party (NPP) primaries to Christopher Arthur.

Photos of the MP together with Leader of the NPP Caucus, Alexander Afenyo-Markins, Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong and other NPP MPs sparked those rumours.

However, a statement issued by her office said the reports are false and do not reflect Madam Morrison’s current position or intentions.

“Any claims suggesting otherwise are attempts to distort the facts and misinform the public.

“We urge the media and the general public to disregard these baseless claims and rely only on official statements and verified sources for accurate information,” the statement read in parts.
