Ghanaian chef Failatu Abdul-Razak’s ambitious bid to break the world record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual has unfortunately fallen short of success. Despite her determination to surpass Alan Fisher’s official record of 119 hours, Chef Faila’s attempt encountered a setback due to a violation of the strict guidelines set by the Guinness World Records (GWR).
In a press release on Sunday, March 3, 2024, Chef Faila acknowledged that her endeavour did not adhere to some of the rigorous rest break rules outlined by GWR, resulting in an unsuccessful attempt.
“A statement from the Records Management Team cited a violation of the rest break rules, resulting in an unsuccessful attempt,” portions of the statement read.
Despite this setback, GWR commended Chef Faila for her efforts and encouraged her to continue pursuing future record attempts.
Expressing gratitude for the overwhelming support from Ghanaians and well-wishers throughout her endeavour, Chef Faila emphasized the invaluable experience gained from the marathon cooking session.
“Although this attempt did not result in a world record, it has been an invaluable experience. I am proud of the dedication and hard work put forth, and I am committed to continuing to push boundaries in the culinary world,” she added.
Chef Faila commenced her Guinness World Record longest cooking marathon on January 1st and concluded on January 10th at the Modern City Hotel in Tamale.
Despite falling short of the intended record, she completed an impressive 227-hour cook-a-thon over 10 days. Throughout the marathon, Chef Faila showcased exceptional culinary skills, preparing a diverse range of dishes while celebrating the rich cultural heritage of the Northern Region.
