The Member of Parliament for Ada, Comfort Doyoe Cudjoe has commissioned a six-unit classroom block for the Kasseh Islamic Basic School in her constituency.
The commissioning ceremony which was done at a glamorous event on Thursday, February 22, 2024, saw in attendance several MPs including Ablekuma South MP Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije, La Dadekotopon MP Rita Odoley Sowah, Okaikoi North MP Theresa Awuni among others.
Speaking at the event, Madam Cudjoe who is the Second Deputy Minority Whip disclosed that no financial assistance was received from the GETFund for the construction of the project.
Although Madam Cudjoe didn’t disclose the exact amount she provided, she emphasized her commitment to facilitating the completion of essential projects in her constituency.
“So, what I did as a Member of Parliament was to support the contractor with funding, whatever he needs because I needed the work to be done on time,” she said.
“If I put the amount together, I can tell you what I have been able to loan the contractor, but I can’t speak about how much was the contract sum,” she said.
She emphasized the detrimental impact of Ghanaians’ failure to maintain infrastructure, facilities, and equipment acquired with taxpayers’ money on the country’s development.
Addressing the issue, Madam Cudjoe urged residents to prioritize the upkeep of the newly commissioned basic school.
“Not only do we lack the desire to maintain state infrastructure and facilities, but we misuse such facilities and projects; thereby cutting short their expected lifespan,” she said.
Alhassan A.M. Dabone, the Greater Accra Regional Manager of the Islamic Education Unit, advised the school authorities to ensure proper maintenance of the newly commissioned structure and to avoid overcrowding to optimize its use.
Madam Matilda Atsisey, the Deputy Director of Monitoring and Supervision at the Ada East Education Directorate, praised the MP for creating a conducive learning and teaching environment.
The headteacher of Kasseh Islamic Basic School, Mr. Mohammed Mahduz, expressed gratitude for the new facility, highlighting the challenges the school had faced due to lack of space since 2004. He emphasized that the new classroom block would greatly benefit the 414 pupils and inspire them to excel academically.
Mr Mahduz commended Madam Cudjoe for her support, noting that the new infrastructure would significantly contribute to educational advancement in the constituency.
