Some critically ill patients caused a stir during today’s NPP parliamentary primaries when they were transported to vote for their various candidates.
The move has generated social media uproar due to the visibly poor health conditions of the delegates some of whom were on oxygen life support.
In three separate videos from different constituencies sighted by newsalertgh.com, elderly individuals are seen struggling with health issues as they cast their votes.
In the first video shared on the X (formerly Twitter) handle of Accra-based TV3, a 67-year-old woman named Agnes Aryeetey, appearing frail and with stroke-like symptoms, narrated how despite her condition, she has been a delegate for 10 years. She mentioned that she came out to vote because ‘God’ had found a job for her daughter, who was assisting her. Despite her condition, she expressed that everything had been going well in the elections, with no reported incidents.

Another video from the social media pages of Accra-based GHOne TV showed an elderly man, also displaying symptoms resembling a stroke, being assisted to walk to the voting centre at Mpohor in the Western Region. Though he did not speak to the media, his visible health struggles were evident.

In the third video, a report from Adom TV on X mentioned that a patient on oxygen had been brought to a voting centre in the Berekum East area. The video showed two male nurses standing by a taxi that had transported the unwell delegate to cast her vote.

The public display of these individuals participating in the voting exercise has sparked criticism on social media, with some questioning the appropriateness of their involvement given their poor health conditions.
