President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has praised Cecilia Abena Dapaah as she steps down from her role as Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources in his government.
Madam Abena Dapaah submitted her resignation on Saturday, July 22, just one day after public discussions emerged regarding the reported theft of cash from her residence.
Accepting her resignation with a sense of regret, President Akufo-Addo lauded the exemplary and fruitful work carried out by the former Member of Parliament for Bantama during her tenure. He expressed appreciation for her wholehearted dedication and contribution to the government’s progress and the nation as a whole.
“It is with considerable regret that I accept your resignation, and I applaud your loyalty to the image and standing of the government,” he said in his acceptance letter.
“The work you undertook during your period in Government was excellent and productive, and I thank you for your wholehearted contribution and devotion to the progress of the Government and the nation.”
In her resignation letter, Madam Abena Dapaah assured authorities of her readiness to cooperate with all state agencies investigating the allegations against her.

She acknowledged that the ongoing controversy had become a hindrance to the government at a crucial juncture, but she firmly maintained her integrity and believed that the investigation would vindicate her.
President Akufo-Addo expressed unwavering confidence that “at the end of the day, your integrity, whilst in office, will be fully established.”
He commended her loyalty to the government’s image and reputation, despite the difficult circumstances surrounding her departure.
The Sanitation Minister, Cecilia Abena Dapaah dominated media discussions when reports surfaced that her two house helps, 18-year-old Patience Botwe and 30-year-old Sarah Agyei had been charged with a money heist involving US$1 million, €300,000, and millions of Ghana cedis.
The thefts reportedly occurred between July and October 2022 and included valuable items such as clothes, handbags, perfumes, jewellery, kente cloth, and suits belonging to Mrs Dapaah’s husband, worth thousands of dollars.
The public was deeply concerned about the reported amount of money kept at the minister’s residence, leading to public outcry and intense discussions on social media.
In response, Cecilia Dapaah addressed the situation in her resignation letter, asserting her innocence and vowing to cooperate fully with any state agencies investigating the matter.
