The woes of the former Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM), Charles Bissue are deepening by the day.
This comes after the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) obtained a court order for his arrest after he failed to comply with an invitation last month.
It will be recalled that on May 3, 2023, the OSP sent a letter to Mr Bissue, notifying him of his involvement in the investigation into the activities of the IMCIM and requesting his appearance at the OSP offices on May 22.
However, Mr Bissue’s lawyers requested a copy of the petition that formed the basis of the invitation and asked for a rescheduled meeting on May 25 due to a domestic emergency.
According to Mr Bissue’s lawyers, the OSP declined the proposed date and insisted on the May 22 meeting. As the meeting did not occur, the OSP proceeded to court to secure an arrest warrant.
In response, Mr Bissue has filed a new lawsuit seeking to set aside the arrest warrant and alleging that the investigative body is violating his human rights. This is the third time Mr Bissue has sued the OSP, with the previous two cases related to investigations stemming from an investigative documentary titled “Galamsey Fraud Part I” by Tiger Eye P.I. and journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas.
Mr Bissue has also demanded a copy of the petition that initiated the probe, claiming that Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng authored it during his time in private practice before assuming office.
He is seeking a court order to prevent the OSP from investigating him, arguing that the subject of the probe has already been concluded by the Police Service’s Criminal Investigations Department (CID). The resolution of these cases is still pending.
These developments come shortly after the news went viral on Wednesday of the arrest of the former Chairman of the IMCIM, Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng.
