Another former Member of Parliament on the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) ticket has been reported dead.
Felix Owusu-Adjapong, who served as a former Majority Leader passed away at the age of 79.
Majority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, confirmed the death of the former NPP MP through a post on his social media account on October 4, 2023. Sharing a photo of Mr Owusu-Adjapong, the Nsawam-Adoagyiri MP extended condolences to his family and paid tribute to him.
Felix Kwasi Owusu-Adjapong, born on February 13, 1944, served as the Member of Parliament for Akyem Swedru in the Eastern Region and held the position of Minister for Energy during his career.
Owusu-Adjapong had a notable political career, serving as a member of Ghana’s 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Parliaments. He was first elected as the Member of Parliament for Akyem Swedru in the 1996 Ghanaian general elections, securing 45.30% of the total valid votes cast. He was re-elected in the 2000 Ghanaian general elections with 56.80% of the votes, subsequently holding ministerial positions in the areas of Transport and Communications, as well as Parliamentary Affairs.
In the 2004 general elections, he was again elected as a Member of Parliament with a substantial majority vote of 66.94%. In 2007, he made an unsuccessful bid for the presidential nomination of the NPP after resigning from his ministerial role.
Details about his death, however, remain unknown.
