The Ministry of Roads and Highways has announced that the government has suspended the implementation of the National Roads Authority Act 2024 (Act 1118) to allow for broader stakeholder consultations.
A statement signed by Nastr Ahmad Yartey, Head of the Public Relations Unit of the Ministry, on Friday, February 7, 2025, said the decision follows concerns raised by key stakeholders regarding the new law.
Act 1118, passed by Parliament in July 2024, seeks to streamline the management of Ghana’s road infrastructure by merging the Ghana Highway Authority, the Department of Urban Roads, and the Department of Feeder Roads into a single entity.
The Ministry reassured the public of its commitment to enhancing coordination and efficiency in the road sector while ensuring that all relevant stakeholders have a say in shaping the final framework.
According to the Ministry, the suspension will pave the way for a more inclusive and effective approach to managing the country’s road networks for national development.
