The youth of Ga-Adangbe have nominated Rev. Helbert Nii Aryee Annan as their preferred candidate to represent the Greater Accra Region in the upcoming Council of State elections.
Rev. Annan, a dynamic and results-driven leader from Adjumaku Dawurampong in Ngleshi Alata (James Town), Accra, is passionate about the region’s development and is committed to championing policies that uplift its people.
A key part of his agenda is addressing the welfare concerns of Assembly Members. He has criticized the disparity in remuneration, where Members of Parliament and government officials receive salaries, while Assembly Members rely solely on Internally Generated Funds (IGF), which are often inconsistent. He has thus pledged to advocate for the establishment of a dedicated fund to provide Assembly Members with fair salaries, access to car loans deducted monthly from their earnings, and a well-structured ex-gratia payment from the Consolidated Fund before the dissolution of Assemblies.
With a background in law, Rev. Annan has a firm grasp of the legal intricacies surrounding these proposals and vows to fight for fair treatment of Assembly Members. He has assured them of a strong working relationship if given the mandate.
The youth backing his nomination believe he is approachable, proactive, and a leader they can trust to listen to their concerns.
During a meeting with his nominators, Rev. Annan expressed gratitude for their support and stressed his commitment to serving the Greater Accra Region. He also noted that his primary objective will be to provide counsel and policy guidance to the President and other constitutional bodies on critical national matters.
Rev. Annan has extensive experience in public service, having worked with the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority and the Parliament of Ghana. His expertise spans governance, policymaking, and the port and maritime industry, and he strongly advocates for evidence-based decision-making.
Outlining his vision for Greater Accra, Rev. Annan pledged to use his position in the Council of State to advocate for the region’s pressing needs. He aims to transform Greater Accra into a hub for technological innovation, economic growth, and safe, thriving communities.
His key priorities include:
- Tackling unemployment and advocating for proper affirmative action policies.
- Ensuring the welfare of Assembly Members is met without fail.
- Creating decent-paying job opportunities for the working population.
- Promoting education and vocational training for the youth.
- Addressing flooding, congestion, and sanitation challenges in the region.
- Supporting efforts to combat corruption, crime, and security threats.
A Chartered Accountant by profession, Rev. Annan holds an MBA from the Australian Institute of Business. He believes in the power of unity to drive transformative change, emphasizing that when people come together with a shared vision, no challenge is insurmountable.
His campaign slogan, “Greater Accra Deserves Better,” encapsulates his mission to uplift the region and create lasting progress.
