Two Ghanaian peacekeepers serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) have sustained critical injuries after a missile strike hit their base in southern Lebanon amid rising tensions in the Middle-East region.
According to a statement issued by the Ghana Armed Forces on Friday, March 6, 2026, the Ghanaian Battalion Headquarters was struck between 17:45 and 17:52 local time during heightened hostilities involving the Israel Defense Forces and the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah.
The attack left two Ghanaian soldiers critically injured, while another officer suffered psychological trauma.
The missile strike also caused significant damage to the camp’s infrastructure, completely destroying the Officers’ Mess after it caught fire.
“The injured personnel are receiving treatment at the Level One Medical Bunker and are currently stable. Arrangements are being made for their evacuation to the UNIFIL Headquarters Referral Hospital for further care,” the statement said.

The military assured the public that other Ghanaian troops stationed at the camp remain safe after quickly taking shelter in underground bunkers during the attack.
Meanwhile, the Government of Ghana, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has lodged a formal protest at the headquarters of the United Nations in New York City.
Ghana is urging all parties operating within the UNIFIL mission area to respect international obligations and take the necessary steps to ensure the protection and safety of peacekeeping personnel deployed in the volatile region.
