The Volta Regional Police Command has intercepted twenty-six (26) sacks of substances suspected to be narcotic drugs, believed to be Indian hemp, following a well-coordinated intelligence-led operation in the Ho Municipality.
According to a press statement signed by the Head of Public Affairs Unit, Chief Inspector Francis Kwaku Gomado stated that the operation was initiated after intelligence was received on January 23, 2026, indicating that a white American Ford Wagon, bearing a Ghana Health inscription, had been loaded with suspected narcotics from Dzolokpuita and was heading towards Ho.
Acting on the intelligence, a joint team of officers from the Drug Law Enforcement Unit (DLEU), the Police Intelligence Unit (PID), and the Regional CID was deployed for surveillance. The vehicle was intercepted around the Tarso Hotel area in Ho after a hot chase, when the driver reportedly failed to stop upon signal at the Ziavi Police Check Point.
A search conducted on the vehicle in the presence of the suspect revealed twenty-six maxi sacks containing a total of two thousand and forty-five (2,045) well-wrapped, oval-shaped compressed leaves suspected to be Indian hemp. The substances have an estimated street value of GH¢1,022,500.00.
The suspect, identified as Godswany Kwaku Dogbey, a 38-year-old worker with the Ghana Health Service Directorate in Ho, was arrested and is currently in police custody, assisting with investigations. Efforts are underway to forward the seized exhibits to the Forensic Laboratory for examination and confirmation.
The Volta Regional Police Command has assured the public of enhanced surveillance and sustained operations as part of ongoing efforts to curb drug trafficking and related criminal activities within the region. The Command further encouraged the public to continue supporting the police with credible information to help maintain safety and security.
