The Savannah Regional town of Daboya has officially launched a weekly community market, opening a new chapter in the town’s commercial and social life.
The market was inaugurated on Friday, January 2, 2026, following traditional and religious rites held at the community centre and the main market square, which drew residents, traders, and visitors from surrounding areas.
An Islamic prayer led by Sheikh Mudasiru marked the formal opening, as blessings were invoked for traders, buyers, and the overall success of the initiative.
Shortly after the prayer, announcements were made across the market area, signalling the start of trading activities and drawing widespread attention. Market women and traders expressed excitement about the initiative, sharing personal experiences that reflected resilience, hope, and expectations of improved livelihoods.
Community leaders and local authorities encouraged residents to actively participate and promote the market, describing it as a strategic platform to stimulate local economic activity and strengthen social cohesion.
The Daboya Community Weekly Market will be held every Friday, providing opportunities for trade, cultural interaction, and grassroots development.
