VIDEO: “I’m in politics to make a difference, not money” — Dr. Bawumia to Amenfi West NPP delegates

Former Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, says his involvement in politics is driven purely by his desire to serve Ghanaians and improve their living conditions, not to pursue personal riches.

Speaking to an enthusiastic crowd of party delegates in Amenfi West as part of his campaign tour of the Western Region, Dr Bawumia drew a clear line between his record of prudent public service and what he called the wasteful spending habits of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Highlighting the Mobile Money Interoperability Project as proof of his commitment to value for money, the Vice President revealed that the project was initially proposed under the NDC at an exorbitant cost of $1.2 billion, but was later executed by his team for only $4.5 million.

“When we came into office, we cancelled that bloated deal and completed the same project for just 4.5 million dollars — not even up to 5 million,” he said, drawing cheers from the crowd.

Dr Bawumia said this monumental cost-saving move exemplifies his leadership style — one that prioritises transparency, accountability, and national interest.

“I came into politics to serve the people, not to enrich myself. My greatest satisfaction comes from seeing how government projects are improving lives across the country.”

According to him, the interoperability system — which now seamlessly links mobile money wallets with bank accounts — has transformed financial inclusion in Ghana and created thousands of employment opportunities.

He urged delegates to judge him by his record of delivering innovative and cost-effective solutions rather than political rhetoric, assuring them that his leadership will remain people-centred and fiscally responsible.

“I’m not in politics for money; I’m in it to make a lasting difference in the lives of ordinary Ghanaians,” Dr Bawumia stressed.
