Pope John Senior High School and Minor Seminary (POJOSS) have once again proven their academic might, storming into the semifinals of the 2025 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) after overpowering Mpraeso SHS and Swedru Secondary School in a thrilling quarterfinal contest.
The Koforidua-based all-boys school delivered a dominant performance from start to finish, amassing a commanding 53 points to secure a comfortable lead over their opponents. Mpraeso SHS trailed behind with 30 points, while Swedru Secondary School managed 21 points.
Pope John SHS set the tone early in the contest, establishing a strong lead in the opening rounds. They displayed remarkable composure and depth of knowledge across all subjects, ensuring that neither Mpraeso SHS nor Swedru SHS could close the gap.
By the end of Round 2, Pope John had already built a solid foundation with 24 points. In the Problem of the Day, Mpraeso SHS put up a spirited challenge with 9 out of 10 points, but POJOSS maintained their steady form with 7 out of 10, while Swedru SHS managed 5 out of 10. Pope John extended their lead to 47 points in Round 4 before sealing victory at 53 points.
This latest win adds to Pope John’s impressive run in the competition, having earlier defeated Ghana SHS, Tamale and Awudome SHS in the one-eighth stage. Their consistent performance makes them one of the top favourites heading into the semifinals.
