Rotary Club of Accra Ring Road Central, Élevè HealthWatch Team Up for Free Health Screening at Berekuso Clinic

The Rotary Club of Accra Ring Road Central (RRC), in partnership with Élevè HealthWatch, the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital and the Akwapim South Health Directorate, has organised a free health screening exercise at the Berekuso Clinic in the Eastern Region. The initiative formed part of the Healthy Futures Ghana Project, which seeks to address the growing burden of non-communicable diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, stroke, cancers and chronic respiratory conditions, while also improving maternal and mental health services in underserved communities.

This year’s exercise was especially significant for RRC as it followed the recent handover of a multi-million-cedi health facility at Berekuso, a landmark project already transforming healthcare in the area. Building on this achievement, the Club is now focusing on improving newborn survival rates in deprived communities through the donation of four incubators to selected health facilities across the country.

More than 600 residents from Berekuso and Oboadaka benefited from the outreach, receiving services including NCD screening, antenatal ultrasound scans, mental health support, health education, point-of-care testing and free consultations with both Ghanaian and international clinicians.

To strengthen local healthcare capacity, Élevè HealthWatch donated a mobile ultrasound scanner, provided blood pressure machines, point-of-care testing kits and other essential medical supplies to clinics, and offered skills training for midwives and local clinicians to ensure the sustainability of services beyond the outreach.

Rotary Club President Henry Lamptey said the partnership demonstrates Rotary’s commitment to sustainable health solutions.

“This partnership reflects Rotary’s commitment to transforming lives through sustainable healthcare. By combining infrastructure development, like the Berekuso Clinic, with preventive and life-saving services, we are ensuring healthier futures for communities,” he stated.

Nana Abena Gyamfua Ababio, CEO and Founder of Élevè HealthWatch and Healthy Futures Ghana, highlighted the importance of community-based approaches.

“We believe in community-driven healthcare solutions. Working with Rotary, Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, and Akwapim South Health Directorate enables us to scale up preventive care, improve maternal outcomes, and empower local clinics for long-term impact,” she said.

The initiative was supported by Give To Life Charity, Unicom Pharmaceuticals, Decor Zone, Oasis Capital and other partners committed to advancing health equity in Ghana.
