The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, is currently addressing the nation on the outcome of recent negotiations with MultiChoice Ghana (operators of DStv).
The press briefing at the Ministry’s Conference Room follows weeks of heated exchanges between the Ministry and MultiChoice over subscription rates. The Minister has consistently argued that Ghanaian customers are paying disproportionately high fees compared to other African markets, despite recent gains of the cedi.
In August, the Ministry directed the National Communications Authority to consider suspending DStv’s license if MultiChoice failed to comply with a 30% price cut directive. MultiChoice resisted, citing operational costs, but later agreed to participate in a stakeholder committee to explore a compromise.
