The Member of Parliament for Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA), Samuel Atta Mills, has intervened to settle a medical bill of GH¢4,100, securing the release of a mother and her son who had been detained at the Elmina Polyclinic.
According to the lawmaker, who also serves as the Ranking Member on Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee, he encountered the distressed woman during a visit to the facility. She narrated that her son had been admitted and treated for two weeks, but was being held back by the hospital due to their inability to pay the accumulated bill.
Touched by her plight, Mr. Atta Mills cleared the outstanding amount on the spot, allowing the family to return home. He further assured the woman of his commitment to support the boy’s education so that his schooling is not disrupted by financial challenges.
The MP’s gesture has since drawn praise from residents of Dutch Komenda, where the family hails from.
