The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has disbursed GHS 243,225,701.55 in claims to credentialed healthcare providers across Ghana, covering services rendered up to June 2025. The payments, made on August 6, 2025, reflect the Authority’s commitment to timely reimbursements under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
Public health facilities received the largest share, amounting to GHS 120,048,031.54, representing 49% of the total payout. Private sector facilities were paid GHS 78,747,543.25 (32%), while mission-based facilities accounted for GHS 44,430,126.76 (18%).
The NHIA attributes the accelerated pace of claims settlement to improved cash flow from the uncapped National Health Insurance Levy (NHIL). Officials say the development has boosted trust between NHIA management and administrators of credentialed facilities nationwide.
In a statement, the Authority reaffirmed its resolve to eliminate illegal charges by some service providers for services covered under the NHIS. It also urged all providers to submit accurate and timely claims to ensure smooth reimbursements.
The NHIA continues to position prompt claims payments as a key strategy for sustaining the scheme’s credibility and enhancing access to quality healthcare for all Ghanaians.
