The National Communications Authority (NCA) has suspended the operations of nine radio stations across the country for various infractions, following the expiration of a 30-day grace period granted by President John Dramani Mahama for defaulting broadcasters to rectify breaches of Ghana’s broadcasting regulations.
According to the NCA, while several non-compliant stations took steps to address their violations during the amnesty period, six operators failed, refused, or neglected to take corrective action. As a result, the following stations have been suspended:
1. Donplus Multimedia Limited – 105.9 MHz, Ho
2. Dreams Ghana Media Limited – 101.3 MHz, New Abirem
3. 104.9 – 104.9 MHz, Kintampo
4. Jam Multimedia Limited – 102.7 MHz, Duayaw Nkwanta
5. Jewel Group Limited (Kpandai Star Community Radio) – 107.3 MHz, Kpandai
6. Unique Gateway Communication Limited – 105.7 MHz, Nkawkaw
In addition, three other stations belonging to Wontumi Multimedia Company Limited have had their operations suspended for failing to resolve specific regulatory breaches, including the unauthorised use of Studio-to-Transmitter Link (STL) frequencies and operating from unapproved transmitter locations. These stations, which were also found to be operating without a valid Certificate of Compliance in violation of Regulation 54 of the Electronic Communications Regulations, 2011 (L.I. 1991), are:
1. Wontumi Radio – 95.9 MHz, Accra
2. Wontumi Radio – 101.3 MHz, Kumasi
3. Wontumi Radio – 101.3 MHz, Takoradi
The Authority reiterated its commitment to sanitising Ghana’s broadcasting sector, stressing that it will continue to monitor all radio and television operators to ensure adherence to the terms of their authorisations and the relevant laws governing the industry.
The NCA urged all operators to comply with regulatory requirements to avoid sanctions.
